trueCall plugs in between your telephone and wall socket and tells you who's calling before you answer. trueCall lets you choose whether to accept the call, Star the call, get trueCall to take a message, or Zap the caller.

When an incoming call arrives, trueCall checks the caller’s number and allows starred callers straight through. If the caller is on The Zap List, it answers the call without your phone ringing and rejects them politely.

The trueCall Star & Zap Lists maximise your caller ID service by automatically learning which callers are allowed to ring. In order to put someone on either list you must have Caller ID installed on your phone, and the caller must forward their Caller-ID (some people withhold their Caller-ID).

If your friends live abroad, then you will probably not receive their Caller-ID so won’t be able to put them on your Star list. trueCall has special features to deal with this (click here for more info).

If you receive a lot of recorded calls we recommend that you block them using trueCall’s Shield feature. If a caller isn’t on your Zap or Star list, Shield will ask the caller to press a key on their telephone keypad. If they don’t press the key, or if they press the wrong key, trueCall rejects says ‘Goodbye’ and hangs up on them without your phone ever ringing. This blocks all robocalls or recorded messages.

Optionally you can turn on trueCall’s Anonymous Caller Reject facility. This will reject any caller who withholds their number with the message “You have withheld your calling number so I cannot connect you” Callers will then have to unblock their number and ring back.

You can choose to play the Shield message to all unrecognised callers, to just calls coming from 08, 09 or withheld numbers (this identifies most robocalls while letting your occasional callers through the Shield). You can also use NightShield which only Shields unrecognised callers during the night (midnight to 7am).

A. Yes trueCall will work happily alongside your broadband connection.

A. trueCall will work with all the main telephone providers. It works best if you have the Caller ID service from your phone supplier (this is currently available free from BT).

Q. Does trueCall work with answering machines?
A. trueCall includes Message Manager, its own powerful answering machine. If you have a separate answering machine, unplug it or switch off any answering facilities provided by your telephone.

Q. Can I use any telephone with trueCall?
A. trueCall will work with cordless DECT phones, cordless analogue phones, text message phones, even Mickey Mouse phones! It works best with a modern cordless phone system.

Q. How will trueCall handle automated messages that I want to receive - for example from neighbourhood watch?
A. Just put the phone number of the line that sends you these messages onto your Star list, and trueCall will put these calls straight through.
